T he expressive nature of worn and frayed old playthings has been the inspiration for this series of acrylic paintings. The emotional personality inherent in these objects has been a rich source from which to describe deep feelings we all can identify with. These old objects are perfect symbols for addressing melancholy, nostalgia, loneliness, and innocence.
“I like to play with conceptual tricks, word games, and surreal juxtapositions.”
They also embody the scars of emotional attachment, and the wear and tear of the passage of time. All this provides fertile ground for me to express my own vision.
I have also begun a series of new pieces which are a combination of collage and painting. This method allows me the freedom to weave together found images, with my own personal painted imagery.
Children’s books, scientific text, and graphic illustrations, (culled from an assortment of odd and old books rummaged from garage and library sales) inspire me to create painted worlds. I like to play with conceptual tricks, word games, and surreal juxtapositions.
